The Ijazah Program at El Badr Institute is an experience that transforms students. It's a journey that takes them through rigorous academic training, spiritual growth, and personal development. It prepares them not just to be proficient in Quranic recitation or memorisation, but to be ambassadors of the Quran, carrying its message to the world with authenticity and integrity.
Our Ijazah program is primarily offered in the recitation mode of Hafs an Asim. This Qira'ah, traced back to Hafs from Abdur Rahman Al-Sulami, is renowned for its widespread acceptance and usage in the majority of the Islamic world. It is characterized by its unique rules of Tajweed and pronunciation, making it a foundational Qira'ah for students of the Quran. Following the completion of Ijazah in Hafs an Asim, students have the opportunity to advance to the second stage, which focuses on the mode of Shu'bah from Asim, attributed to Shu'bah from Zir ibn Hubaish, offering a deeper exploration into the varied recitation styles.
Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded the Ijazah, along with a Sanad, which is a chain of narration connecting them to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). This certification is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to Quranic studies. It is a recognition that they are now part of a continuous chain of knowledge that has been preserved and passed down through generations.
The Ijazah Program also emphasizes the ethics and etiquettes of Quranic recitation and teaching. Students learn the profound responsibility that comes with being a carrier and transmitter of the Quran. This includes understanding the importance of intention (Niyyah), humility, and the reverence due to the sacred text. The program thus shapes individuals who are not only skilled in recitation or memorisation but are also exemplary in character and conduct.
Central to this program is the one-on-one interaction with expert instructors, who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to their teaching. These sessions are personalised and intensive, involving detailed feedback, correction, and guidance. The instructors are not just teachers but mentors who play a crucial role in shaping the students’ Quranic journey. The program goes beyond mere recitation or memorisation; it delves into the sciences of the Quran, Tajweed theory, and the study of key Islamic texts that enrich the student's understanding of Quranic scholarship.
An Ijazah, meaning 'permission' or 'authorization' in Arabic, is a traditional certification in the Islamic scholarly world. It signifies a student's authority and legitimacy to teach and transmit the Quran with accuracy and integrity, reflecting a lineage of knowledge and scholarship. This program, therefore, is not just a course but a journey into the heart of Islamic tradition and scholarship.
